Electrostatic fields These cannot normally be felt. They surround all live electrical cables. They exist, therefore, almost everywhere.

Electromagnetic fields Surround, for example, transformers, spools, and electric motors. Therefore, also TV sets and computer monitor screens.

Static electrical fields Are, for example, what you feel on the back of your hand in close proximity to a TV screen or when you comb your hair and it “crackles”.

Scientific discussion still goes on as to whether or not these fields are harmful.
However, the majority of people with electrical-allergies are convinced that that they have an effect. In Sweden a reduction in these fields was demanded at an early stage. TCO has lead the development of norms that are today a standard even in the rest of Europe. Manufacturers of computer screens have taken these norms on board and reduced these fields to a fraction of their original values.
The fact that a TV viewer normally sits a long way away from the TV, has meant that the same reduction of such fields has not been made on TV sets.
Note that each time you halve the distance between the screen and the viewer, the “radiation” level is doubled. That is to say, a viewer at 15 cm distance from the screen is exposed to 4 times stronger “radiation” than one who sits at a distance of 60 cm.
There are video monitors marked with MPRII that have a reduced level of radiation. If you want to be on the safe side, it is recommended that a TCO marked monitor screen be used.
Note that the PC and monitor screen must be connected to an earthed outlet in order for the norms to be satisfied. Non-earthed screens are said to generate 10-100 times more radiation.
